Manitoba’s Young Worker Injury Prevention Strategy was created to continue to address the over 4,000 young worker
injuries that occur in the workplace each year in Manitoba. While this is down from nearly 5,000 since the previous strategy was
created, it is still unacceptable – on average, two young workers lose their lives in workplace incidents each year.
Developed in collaboration with partners in the safety
and health community, this five-year strategy builds on the success of the previous three-year strategy, which saw a 16 per cent
decrease in young worker injuries between 2014 and 2019. The current strategy will help us improve young worker safety through key initiatives such as raising awareness of training
opportunities available to employers, educators and young workers themselves.
This five-year strategy provides a detailed roadmap to help reduce young worker injuries in Manitoba with all
prevention partners working together.
