SAFE Group: Safety Awareness For Employers

SAFE GroupThe roots of the SAFE Group were planted in Winkler, Manitoba when a single company implemented a whole new Disability Management program for its employees. The program proved tremendously successful, prompting the company to share its approach with neighbouring companies in Southern Manitoba .

At that initial meeting, it became apparent that despite being from diverse industries, the companies had many concerns in common: concerns such as improving claims management, enhancing communications with the medical community, creating better early return to work programs and reducing lost time days. Even more importantly, the companies recognized the value of working together and sharing information as a means of strengthening ties to their shared communities and improving workplace safety for more Manitobans.

Today, the SAFE Group has representatives from 8 companies in South Central Manitoba, and administers safety and health initiatives for more than 1600 employees combined. The Group is comprised of Safety / H.R. people, Plant Managers and ISO Administrators, who are responsible for the Safety Program in their respective facilities. Meetings are held every 6 weeks so that people can share their best practices and review legislation pertaining to safety and health that impact their companies.
